During National Volunteer Week – and all year long – we celebrate employees like Carla Theimer who go to great lengths to serve others. Their stories remind us that no act of kindness is ever wasted.

Carla Theimer, a Customer Account Resolution Representative at Southwest Gas, and a mother of four, is creating a culture of giving in her family, nurturing the next generation of volunteers. Her two oldest children, ages 14 and 9, have joined her at every volunteer event since she joined the Company three years ago. As her younger children grow, she looks forward to them participating in future events.

“It is important to teach my kids the value of helping others, so that they can better understand their fellow neighbors and appreciate the blessings they have,” shares Theimer. “My hope is that by instilling this important value in their lives, they will grow up and teach their children as well.”

Since joining the Company, Theimer has discovered countless opportunities for her and her children to give back — many of them through the Company’s employee volunteer program BLUE - Building Lives Up Everywhere. BLUE connects employees with meaningful causes across the Company's service territories, helping uplift local communities through ongoing initiatives with non-profits.

Among her favorite activities at Southwest Gas are the annual holiday gift wrapping events, where her children enthusiastically help wrap presents for local children in need. “They’re always eager to volunteer whenever there is an opportunity,” she says. “It’s amazing to see how even the smallest task can make a big difference.”

Carla emphasizes the deeper benefits of volunteering — especially when shared as a family. “It brings a sense of purpose and fulfillment to your life,” she explains. “It can also help reduce stress, combat loneliness, and improve physical health. But above all, the joy of helping others is priceless.”

Through her dedication and example, Carla has found a meaningful way to create connections and make a positive impact in her community. Also finding joy and sharing a meaningful legacy of compassion and service that will extend to future generations.
