Southwest Gas Celebrates Sweet Beginnings in Mesquite as the First Customer is Served

Wrench-turning ceremony marks the arrival of natural gas service in Mesquite

MESQUITE, Nev. – Southwest Gas and the City of Mesquite are proud to announce the arrival of natural gas service in the area. Bringing natural gas to one of Nevada’s fastest-growing cities marks a new era of growth and economic opportunity for the community, located 90 miles northeast of Las Vegas. This sweet occasion was marked today with a ceremonial “turning of the wrench” and celebratory “first batch” of chocolates at Danielle’s Chocolates & Popcorn.

"This is an exciting time for Southwest Gas and the residents of Mesquite,” says John Hester, president and CEO of Southwest Gas. “We’re proud to provide this clean, abundant, and reliable fuel to Danielle’s and all our new customers, and are committed to providing them with an excellent customer experience for years to come. Southwest Gas has been fueling homes, businesses, and fleets for almost nine decades now and we are honored that the residents of Mesquite have chosen to join more than two million other customers in welcoming us into their daily lives.”

“Bringing natural gas to Mesquite is a monumental step forward for us as a community and allows us to invite additional industries into the City, boosting our economic growth,” says Mayor Allan Litman. “I know Danielle’s Chocolates & Popcorn is excited to be the first company in Mesquite to have natural gas, and their customers are anxious to taste the treats made with this new energy option.”

Located in Clark County, Nev., and home to more than 20,000 residents, the first natural gas customers in Mesquite are being served by a “virtual pipeline.” Compressed natural gas (CNG) is trucked into the city and distributed via a pipeline which runs from City Hall to the intersection of Falcon Ridge and Pioneer Blvd. As the multi-year, multi-phase project continues, Southwest Gas will construct approximately 40 miles of pipeline, connecting the city to a transmission line located 14 miles north of Interstate 15. The immediate benefit to the city is the addition of approximately 300 jobs during construction of the pipeline and supporting infrastructure.

Southwest Gas serves more than two million customers in Arizona, California and Nevada. For more information about Southwest Gas, please visit www.swgas.com.
